As a framer, I will say if you’re using conventional lumber on LVL, hold the conventional lumber a bit high to allow for shrinkage to avoid humps later. Shouldn’t be an issue in your application. Just something to think about

Looks great! I am acquiring a really nice cookie from a gigantic white oak that was just felled at my childhood home and plan to make a table out of it. I am thinking about a 3" piece and using smaller branches as the leg. I guess I will have to wait a few years before I really tackle it so you'll be hearing back from me

Would you recommend liquid sandpaper?

As a designer and builder, over sizing the framing lumber is a great move. I would have been sure the ledger board was attached with at least 3 fastners (which you may have) to each stud and moved the 'joist spacing/layout' to attach to the ledger with joist hangers at the exact spot as the studs (ie: stack framing). However, your style is considered acceptable, my method is just another form of 'overbuilding'. Thanks for the video.

I love your videos and always learn things but it kills me to see you attach joist hangers before putting the joists in place. Not a huge deal for an indoor project like this but I've seen you do it on an outdoor deck using PT pine. Weird.

If I use LVL's, for single pitch roof spans of 18' inside, How big do they need to be and how far apart? snow country-cabin.
